DU Admission 2019: Students applying for DU 2019 admission under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category will be granted provisional admission in the University by means of an acknowledgement receipt from authorities if there is a delay in procuring the EWS category certificate. According to an official, this decision was finalised on 17th June, 2019 at the meeting of the Standing Committee of Admissions.
The official said that as there is a delay by the authorities in several places, including Delhi in issuing of EWS certificates, the decision was thus taken. Delhi University, thus decided that students can instead upload an acknowledgement receipt at the time of DU admission 2019. Applicants under the EWS category will be required to submit an undertaking which states that they will submit the EWS certificate within 15 days of taking admission to the college.
The eligibility criteria for DU admission 2019 was finalised the Delhi High Court on 14th June, 2019. Delhi High Court directed Delhi University as well as the University Grants Commission (UGC) to allow students to apply for DU 2019 admission to undergraduate courses for the current academic session on the basis of the eligibility criteria of 2018-19. The bench had also clarified that any changes in the eligibility criteria would have to be made in accordance with law which would require a minimum of six months of public notice at large.
About 4 lakh candidates have registered on Delhi University’s admission portal DU admission 2019 for UG courses while the number of registrations for PG courses is about 2 lakhs. Of the total students about 13,000 students are said to have applied under the EWS category. Delhi University, this year, has effected a 10 per cent increase in seats for the EWS category students increasing the total number of seats for UG courses to 62,000. Cut offs will be released separately for students belonging to the EWS category.
