DU Syllabus: The panel of Delhi University has approved the first semester syllabus of four subjects. The panel sent back the syllabus of rest of the subjects for revision. The oversight committee of the university has passed the syllabus of four subjects i.e. Political Science, Sociology, History and English. The syllabus for these subjects has been passed for the first semester. The committee has sent the curriculum of other subjects to the respective department for the purpose of revision. The respective department has been given a month’s time to revise the syllabus and submit to the committee.
It is interesting to know that the approval of the syllabus has gone to a row and therefore the committee has sent it back to the department for revision. The concerned departments have to submit the syllabus in one month and they can consult the various stakeholders for suggestions and improvements. The committee has concerns over plenty of Indian writings and the inclusion of controversial subjects in it. Some members from the faculty have not been found happy about the decision of the committee. There have been claims of left wing and right wing forces being involved in the formulation of the syllabus.
The member of the Academic council, Dr. Rasal Singh said, “The syllabi should be cleansed and Indianised. The syllabi should be free from colonial and communist clutches. Participation of more teachers and other stakeholders including students should be ensured in comprehensive review process and syllabi should be made inclusive, academic and non-propagandist.” He expressed his happiness on this claim. Now, the wait is for the revision and approval of the syllabus of rest of the subjects.
