DU Curriculum Framework

According to recent reports, Delhi University Executive Council has approved the UG Curriculum Framework 2022. The Academic Council of the university had approved the curriculum framework which was then placed before the EC for discussion.

The three members which included Court members to the EC Advocate Ashok Agarwal and Advocate Rajpal Singh along with Elected teacher’s representative Dr Seema Das disagreed with the EC decision.

During the Academic Council meeting, members had given a disagreement mote against the Curriculum Framework stating that the UGCF 2022 must be sent for a  discussion to all the statutory bodies including the committees of courses, staff councils and faculties.

Three of the EC members stated that the issues raised by the Academic Council members are extremely serious and the university should not move forward without responding to them.

Changes proposed in UGCF 2022

The UG Curriculum Framework 2022 proposes changes in the current system such as multidisciplinary courses, multiple exit options where students can leave their UG courses after the first, second and third year with a certificate, diploma or degree. The curriculum framework also mentions a four-year degree programme.

Disputes pointed

According to the committee members, the UGCF 2022 along with MEES (Multiple Entry-Exit Scheme)  and ABC (Academic Bank of Credits) Regulations is a major overhaul and as the Delhi University is known for its undergraduate programmes considering the number of students and teachers involved in the UG programme it is important to be careful and not repeat mistakes of the FYUP (Four Year Undergraduate Programme) implemented in 2013.

Concerns were also raised over the adverse impact on the quality of education and teaching jobs as the members have urged for wider consultation and feedback from the statutory bodies at Department and College levels.

The Academic Council members who sent the disagreement also argued that the university gave only 10 days to send feedback and the responses shared by stakeholders on the Draft Curriculum Framework had not been made public.

The members have further stated that the feedback collected has not been shared with the members of the AC and while it may be true that the university has received responses it is important to investigate the feedback as concerns may have been raised.
