MoE Launches APAAR ID Card: The Ministry of Education launched the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) in rural areas through Common Service Centres (CSCs). The initiative requires all college students to register on the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) to create a ‘One Nation, One Student ID.’ Students must provide an ABC ID to be admitted to any institution or university under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
To make school and higher education more transparent and simple, the secretary of the school department, Sanjay Kumar stated that students should be given a temporary APAAR ID which should be connected to their Aadhaar and Digilocker.
What Is Academic Bank of Credits?
Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is a digital repository for students wherein they can retain their grades, certificates, credits, and personal data. Students can visit the nearest CSC to avail the service. The ABC ID is a unique 12-digit code to store, manage, and access academic credits, including degrees, diplomas, certificates, training details, and co-curricular accomplishments digitally.
Students will be able to take admission from one institute to another for graduation and post-graduation easily with the help of an ABC identity card. Colleges and institutions will now be able to access all student data easily.
Advantages Of APAAR ID
The Academic Bank of Credits has been established on the lines of the National Academic Depository (NAD). While ABC enables students to register or transfer credits, the final outcomes of credit redemption and issuance of certificates as well as the compilation of award records are managed by the academic institutions.
Emphasising the advantages of APAAR ID, the head of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Anil Sahasrabudhe stated that the students will just need to provide their APAAR ID rather than certificates in the future. He added that the students will get to keep the ID with them forever.

The CEO of CSC said that students will receive APAAR IDs and be enrolled in classes by Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs). The ID cards would not only help store student information in one location but also put an end to irregular actions and assist schools that lack the equipment necessary for online services.
