Fergusson College Pune to start new masters programme in data science

Savitribai Phule Pune University will be starting a new two-year M.Sc in Data Science programme at Fergusson College making it the college under the university to start such a programme. The programme is scheduled for the present academic years and classes are expected to begin from July 2019. Data Science is a branch in computer science which has an interdisciplinary focus. It also encompasses the knowledge of statistics, mathematics and software programming.

Data Science is a field that is flourishing thanks to the rise in technological inputs because of which it fits perfectly with any field of technology. The students admitted to this programme can for into different companies which use big data, presenting them with greater job opportunities.

Candidates who wish to seek admission to the programme are required to have completed their B.Sc programme in any field preferably in mathematics, statistics or computer science, The programme will be an 80 credit course with 24 credits in each semester. Students admitted to the programme will have a chance to explore statistics in depth along with technological advancements in the field.

The fee structure for the programme will be roughly 1.6 lakhs per year for each student admitted. With regard to the admission procedure as per the university, the application forms for the admission to the programme are available online from June 21 to 28, 2019. The admission will be conducted based on an entrance test which will be conducted on June 30, 2019. The programme will have a total capacity of 30 seats Candidates interested must note that the admissions will be held based on the marks secured by the candidates in the entrance examination.
