Heartened by the success of the free coaching scheme - ‘Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana’, the government of Delhi has decided to extend the benefits of the scheme to the students from the general category and other backward classes.
Thirty-five underprivileged students who received free coaching under the scheme qualified the JEE Main and NEET examination. While five of the students’ secured admissions into the leading technical and medical colleges including Lady Hardinge, IIT Delhi, Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, the National Institute of Technology Delhi and Banaras Hindu University.
Speaking to the media the Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said that the government has been considering to extend the scheme to the needy students from the OBC and general category.
Currently only selected students to avail the free coaching for four months as the government takes care of all the expenses up to Rs Rs. 50,000 per student. He also added that the government is considering increasing the amount to Rs 1.5 lakh. The duration of the programme will be 1 year.
From the 107 students who received free coaching for engineering and medical entrance examination under the scheme 13 students qualified in the JEE Main examination while 22 students qualified the NEET examination.
Under the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana’ which was launched by the Delhi government last year, 4,953 students enrolled for the coaching for the different entrance examination which also included those students interested to appear for other entrance examinations.
