The Ministry of Human Resource Development has clarified that the extensions of the concessions available for the children of Kashmiri Migrants for the admissions to the different higher educational institutions of Kashmiri Pandits living in the valley will be within the existing quota only.

The ministry had in the last month decided that the concessions which are available for the Kashmiri Migrants will also be available for the students of the non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits or the Kashmiri Hindu families for the admission to the higher educational institutions across the country from the 2020-21 academic sessions.

With the respect to the notification, the HRD Ministry has received a number of queries from educational institutions regarding whether the increase in the intake capacity of up to 5 percent course-wise and reservation of at least one seat in merit quota in the technical and professional institutions is over and above the existing quota.

The HRD Ministry in an official communication has stated that the concessions for the children of the Kashmiri Migrants and Kashmiri Pandits living in Kashmir for the admission into the higher educational institutions for the upcoming academic year is within the existing quota until further orders are released.

The decision was taken by the HRD Ministry following the discussion with the Home Ministry and the government of Jammu and Kashmir after it had received many representations to extend the concession to the non-migrant Kashmiri Pandit students as well.

The concession granted to the students will also include relaxation in the cutoff percentage of up to 10 percent which is subjected to minimum eligibility requirement, increase in the intake capacity of up to 5 percent in each course and a reservation of at least one seat in merit quota for technical and professional institutions.
