
Hindi Diwas 2018: Today, our country is celebrating Hindi Diwas 2018. Schools and colleges have planned various events on their campus. As per the reports, the two-day event organised to celebrate Hindi Diwas concluded at APJ Smart School. The students participated in various activities to mark the day. The children of Class I to III recited poems whereas students of Class IV and V participated in a story-telling competition. The school also organised a Hindi declamation contest in which all the students of Class VI to XII participated.
At Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Management studies, Hindi Diwas is going to be celebrated with a number of competitions. Dr. Ashok Batra, one of the prominent poet is will attend the event as the chief guest. He is known for his great command over Hindi Vyakaran (Grammar). The institute has organised an essay writing competition on the topic, ‘Dainik Vyavhaar me Hindi Ka Sthaan’ (Role of Hindi in our daily life). The prize money of Rs 5,100 is set for the person who will secure first position. Second and third position candidates will be awarded with Rs 3,100 and Rs 2,100, respectively.
Why do we celebrate Hindi Diwas?
The reason behind celebrating this day as Hindi Diwas is being the fact that it was on 14th September 1949 that the Constituent Assembly of India, adopted Hindi in Devanagari script as the official language of the Republic of India after a whole lot of struggle undergone notably by Beohar Rajendra Simha, Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Maithili Sharan Gupt, Kaka Kelkar and Seth Govind Das.
Apart from our own country, there are many other countries in this world where a large population speaks Hindi. Below, is the list of countries apart from India that speaks in Hindi:
Nepal- Apart from Nepali, the language that is spoken the most is Bhojpuri and Hindi in Nepal.
Fiji- It might come as a surprise to some people that in Fiji people do speak in Fiji Hindi and Bhojpuri.
Pakistan- Earlier a part of India, Hindi is also one of the most spoken languages in Pakistan. Apart from that, English, Urdu Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi, Pashto, Hindko, Saraiki, Brahui is also spoken.
Trinidad and Tobago- Both Hindi and Bhojpuri are spoken in Trinidad and Tobago by a vast population.
Singapore- Hindi is spoken quite a lot in Singapore and apart from that Tamil is also spoke majorly there.
Canada- About 100,000 Canadians list Hindi as their first or primary language, especially in Toronto.
South Africa- South Africa has a large number of Hindi-speaking population.
Hindi is our mother language. This language has a rich history. Many words of the English dictionary is derived from the Hindi language. Words like Avatar, Bandanna, Cheetah, Dacoit, Shampoo etc. are derived from Hindi only. It has been speculated that nearly 425 million people speak Hindi as a first language and around 120 million as a second language.
