INI CET 2021 Postponed: In much needed relief for PG Medical Students, the Supreme Court has directed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to postpone the INI CET 2021 Examination. The Apex court has directed AIIMS to defer the PG medical entrance exam by one month in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement comes amid protests and concerns shared by postgraduate medical aspirants who have been seeking postponement of AIIMS INI CET 2021 examination due to the prevailing situation. As per the earlier schedule, the exam was scheduled to be held on 16th June 2021.
SC says AIIMS decision to Hold Exam Arbitrary
The order regarding postponement of the INI CET 2021 examination was delivered by A division Bench of Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice MR Shah who was hearing petitions challenging the conduct of the Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI CET) examination. During the hearing, the apex court bench noted that the decision of AIIMS to hold the PG medical entrance exam was arbitrary and didn’t allow aspirants enough time to prepare for the same. The bench also noted that "These doctors will be appearing in the exam and they do not have time for preparing it because of COVID duty. Why do not postpone the exam by a month.” The court directed AIIMS to defer the exam on its own or the court will be forced to intervene and postpone it on their behalf. Following this, the medical institute agreed and decided to postpone the examination to a later date.
