Karnataka government to conduct full day classes for class 9,10, pre university students from February 1

Karnataka State Government will be conducting full day classes for the students of class 9 and 10 and the first and second year Pre-University students from February 1, 2021. The decision was taken in consideration with the State Technical Advisory Committee for COVID-19

Karnataka School Reopening

Karnataka State Government will be conducting full-day classes for the students of class 9 and 10 and the first and second-year Pre-University students across the state from February 1, 2021, onwards. According to Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar, the decision was taken into consideration by the State Technical Advisory Committee for COVID-19 and keeping in mind the health and educational future of the students as per the experience by the state so far. 

Full Day classes for students

The education minister further added that discussions are conducted with the Health Minister and COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee members where it was decided to start full-day classes for class 9 and 10, first and second year PUC (Class 11 and 12) from February 1, 2021. 

While speaking to the reporters the education minister added that the Vidyagama programme which enables continued schooling of students from class 6 to 8 will continue while the decision to start classes for the other students will be taken after considering the present set up until the second week of February. 

Classes reopened along with Vidyagama

Schools and PUC Colleges in Karnataka have remained closed since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The government reopened the classes for class 10 and Second Year PUC (Class 12) students along with Vidyagama programmes for the students from class 6 to 9 from January 1, 2021, with the schools functioning half a day.

Online and Offline Classes to continue

The state education department has further added that offline and online classes will continue as per the choice of the students and parents and attendance is not compulsory. The education minister further added that the government has noticed an interest among the students in learning and they prefer regular classes. Parents and School Development and Monitoring Committees have also demanded to continue classes for the students.

According to data provided an average of 75 percent attendance has been reported in Second PUC classes while 70 percent attendance has been reported for class 10 students. The minister also added that Vidyagama classes recorded 45 percent attendance.
