Centre Files Affidavit Before the Apex Court

In the affidavit filed, the Central Government has said that any change in the current criteria would lead to confusion among the candidates. Therefore, for the current session, the EWS quota limit for NEET PG Counselling is slated stay at Rs 8 lakh, with the provision for change in the same in the coming year.

Decision Based on Feedback of Expert Committee

During the earlier hearing of the petition, the Central Government had said that it has formed an expert committee to look into the matter of EWS Reservation Income Criteria. The three-member committee was constituted by the Centre after the court’s directions asking the government to review its stand. The decision conveyed by the Central Government in the latest affidavit filed before the apex court is based on the feedback of the expert committee. During the review meeting, the expert committee suggested that changing the EWS criteria midway will lead to complications and therefore instead recommended introduction of revised EWS criteria from the next academic year.
