Parents consent for reopening schools as per Centre SOPs says Gujarat Education Minister

Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama has provided a clarification over the safety and health of the students announcing that the government was not running away from its responsibilities. He further pointed out that the consent of the parents of the students studying in the schools which are to resume the classes was according to the central government’s Standard Operating Procedures. 

Reopening as per SOPs released

The state education minister also pointed out that there is a lot of confusion about the parents complaining that the state government was running away from the responsibilities by asking for a written consent letter from the parents to send the children to schools. He has clarified that the requirement of the consent letter is not a decision taken by the Gujarat government but according to the Central Government SOP to be allowed for resuming education in the schools and colleges in the state.

He clarified it is a misunderstanding that the government is neglecting its duties and has clarified that it will not compromise on student safety and is concerned about the health and wellbeing of each and every student.

State Governments reopening Schools

The education minister has also informed that it was not the only state to decide on resuming the classes for the students. Seven other states including Haryana, Jammu, and Kashmir, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram in Bihar had decided to reopen the schools in September. 

Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh state governments had decided to resume schools in October 2020 and continue the education. Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have also decided to begin schools for the students from November 2 and 16, 2020 respectively. Maharashtra state government has also decided to continue the education for the students.
