Punjab Cabinet has approved to set up a law university in the border district of Tarn Taran in commemoration of the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur. The cabinet under the chairmanship of state Chief Minister Amarinder Singh approved the ‘Sri Guru Teg Bahadur state the University of Law Bill - 2020 to be presented in the upcoming session of the state Assembly - tomorrow, August 28, 2020.
According to an official statement released, the draft bill was prepared by the Higher Education Department to establish and incorporate a state university for the development and advancement of legal education and impart specialized and systematic instructions, training, and research in the field.
Recurring Grant Approved for colleges
According to reports, the Punjab Cabinet has also approved the release of a recurring grant of Rs. 75.75 Crore for 11 more constituent colleges at Rs. 1.5 Crore per college annually from 2016-17 to 2020-21 which will take the number of colleges to which the state government is paying recurring grants to 30. This grant will help in the timely release of the salaried if the teachers motivating them to continue providing quality education to the students.
Medical officer vacancies to be filled
Along with this, the state government has also approved to fill up 428 regular vacancies of medical officers (specialists) on an urgent basis along with ex-post facto approval to 107 posts filled for six specialties.
Punjab state chief minister has also stated that the staff needs to be inboard on an urgent basis to handle the crisis as the state was projected to be ahead for a peak in the COVID-19 cases in the country.
