TN Gov't forms 11 member panel to look into issue of holding Semesters and Final Year Exams

TN Gov’t forms panel for a feasibility study for Semester Exam 2020: Tamil Nadu State Government has formed an 11 member panel to look into the matter of holding the pending semester and final year exams for the university and college students. The panel is headed by Principal Secretary of the higher education department and is expected to submit its report to the government soon.

TN Government forms panel for feasibility study for Semester Exam 2020: Tamil Nadu State Government has formed an 11 member panel to look into the matter of holding the pending semester and final year exams for the university and college students. The panel headed by the Principal Secretary of the higher education department is formed on the basis of the guidelines issued by the UGC. The panel formed will be deciding on conducting the final year/semester examinations in the universities in the state.

The order released by the state government mentions that the universities under the Higher Education Department are not in a position to conduct the semester examinations due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country. 

TN Government Committee Details

The Tamil Nadu Higher Education Secretary will be heading the committee which will design the university exams to be scheduled keeping in mind the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission. The committee will also consist of the principal secretary of the Youth and Sports Welfare Department, Commissioner of Technical Education, Secretary to the Tamil Development and Information Department Vice-Chancellors of the different state universities including Anna University, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tamil University, and Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University. 

The Tamil Nadu State Government has mentioned that the universities of the state are not in a position to conduct the examinations yet due to the ongoing health risks. While Anna University may conduct the examinations in the online mode, the other universities in the state are pondering over cancelling the exams.

The HRD Minister recently asked UGC to revisit its examination guidelines which were earlier issued by the UGC this year. Many of the universities across the country are awaiting the decisions after which the decision of conducting the final examinations will be taken.
