UGC Guidelines for Semester exams 2020: The suspense around the pending Semester Exams 2020 for Final Year students is about to end today, as the University Grants Commission (UGC), is all set to release the revised set to UGC Guidelines for the pending University and College Exams. Earlier last week, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had asked UGC to issue revised guidelines for the pending college and semester exams for university students in the llght of the current situation that prevails due to Coronavirus pandemic. In all likelihood, UGC Guidelines are expected to be out soon, which may either postpone the exam further until August 2020 or ask universities to promote the students on the basis of internal assessment to start the next academic year. As of now, universities and college administrations across the country have been waiting for the guidelines to thereby start the necessary preparations for holding of the exam. As per media reports, UP Government is expected to announce its final decision about pending semester exams today after UGC issues fresh guidelines. On similar lines, several other states governments and students from states where the COVID-19 situation is deteriorating are expecting relief for the students.

Expert Committee Recommends Cancellation of July Exams

As per a report filed by ABP news, an expert committee appointed by the UGC under the leadership of Haryana University vice-chancellor R C Kuhad, has recommended cancellation of all pending final semester examination that are scheduled to be held across the country in July 2020. The committee was evaluated the current situation that prevails in the country with regards to the rising number of COVID-19 cases being reported from major cities and town including Mumbai and Delhi. In line with this, the committee has been been asked to revisit the guidelines and come up with alternative options.

UGC Guidelines Expected Today

The details about UGC Guidelines about Final Semester Exams 2020 being released today was confirmed by UP Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, who also holds the portfolio for Education Ministry. In a statement issued to media persons earlier in the week, Dr Sharma claimed that the final decision with regards to holding Semester Exams 2020 for UP Universities will be taken on 2nd July 2020 after UGC issues its guidelines today.  However, formally, neither HRD Ministry nor the UGC officials have confirmed that they would be releasing the guidelines today.
