As part of the International Day of Girl Child, the British High Commission is offering Indian women aged between 18 to 23 an opportunity to become the High Commissioner for a day. The High Commissioner for a Day competition is being held for young women from India to showcase their qualities and leadership potential on a global platform. Interested participants must submit their applications as a one-minute video responding to the question ‘How can the UK and India collaborate on technology to benefit future generations?’
Participants can share their videos on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn tagging ‘@UKinIndia’ and using the hashtag ‘#DayOfTheGirl. The last date for interested candidates to submit their entries is September 4, 2024. Along with this, participants also need to submit an online form the link for which is given below.

The British High Commission has been conducting the High Commissioner for a Day competition since 2017 to mark the International Day of the Girl Child which is celebrated on October 11 annually. This year's competition is being supported by Shagri-La Hotels and Resorts.
British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron stated that the UK-India Technology Security Initiative between the countries has set a new approach to how both countries can work together on defining the technologies of this decade. Technology Security Initiative was launched by both countries during Foreign Secretary David Lammy’s visit to New Delhi in July 2024 enhancing the collaborative agenda set by the countries in the UK-India Roadmap 2030 focusing on critical and emerging technologies across priority sectors.
She further added that the High Commissioner for a Day competition is an opportunity to nurture future women and to hear about the change they want to see in the world.
The winner for 2023 was Shreya Dharmarajan from Chennai who engaged in various diplomatic activities including leading a discussion at the United Nationals office in New Delhi on Advancing the Sustainable Development Goal, discussing UK-India research collaboration with the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India - Professor Ajay Sood and launching a report on electric vehicles charging infrastructure with Delhi Transportation Department as part of the Accelerating Smart Power and Renewable Energy in India (ASPIRE) programme.
About the Competition
A jury at the British High Commission will select the winner who will be announced on @UKinIndia social media channels. Only one entry per participant will be accepted. The decision taken by the High Commission will be considered as final and no correspondence related to the same will be possible.
The duration of the video should not exceed one minute and entries exceeding the limit time will be disqualified. Submissions made must be original and any form of plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
Participants are also required to transfer the copyright ownership of their videos to BHC New Delhi which may be used to produce content for future commission on its social media channels. Personal details of the participants are not to be shared in the video or posts and BHC will not be responsible for data that participants make public on these platforms.
