Chhattisgarh is having some good number of private universities and the list is yet to increase. Three more private universities are in offing in Chhattisgarh. A private university can be set up in the state under Chhattisgarh Private University Act 2005.
The proposal for the establishment of three new universities as of Shankaracharya University at Durg, Amity University, Raipur and Jindal University at Raigarh are under consideration, is what BR Chandrakar, Chhattisgarh Private University Regulatory Commission secretary stated.
Already five private universities in the state are established and are functioning at present as of MATS University, Dr CV Raman University (CVRU), ICFAI University, ITM University and Kalinga University.
The process of establishing a university is long and it all starts off with the examination of the proposal. The entire thing is forwarded to the government for issuance of a Letter of Intent (LOI). The LOI is issued after the state government takes a call. LOI consists of all the criterions that are necessary for a functional university in which the main ones are financial perspective and the suitable amount of land area. Many proposals are cancelled due the failure of the criterion.
When a private university is set, the selection of the staff and the vice-chancellor of the university are set under the norms of University Grants Commission (UGC). UGC along with the regulatory commission scrutinizes the universities on regular intervals by checking its infrastructure and also its course planning.
