In order to make supply of healthy and hygienic food to the needy children in all the government schools, Puducherry government has drawn their guidelines for implementing the ‘Anna Dhanam’ scheme in the state. The guidelines would encourage the community and its participants to supply the ration to the schools effectively and without hassle.

The HRD ministry has made the decision under which encouragement would be given to philanthropic schemes launched by involving member of the community who can help in supplying the nutritious and healthy food for the school children. In the order issued by Directorate of School Education it was notified that, ‘inculcating feeling of equity and brotherhood among children of all communities and also to reduce gap between the school administration and community’, is the major reason of the scheme.

The guidelines further said the that the community members could serve ‘quality food’ to the students in the schools on any of the important occasions like birthdays, festivals, wedding anniversaries of the donors or any success in examination of the students. Under the scheme there would be supply of food from the private individuals as well, so that they could mark memorial days of ancestors in the family.

Any Anna Dhanam day would be necessarily a working day of the school and any of the donors can choose a school or a set of schools according to their own choices. There are a few conditions mentioned under the scheme as well, which points out that the scheme could not be used by the donors as publicity tool or propaganda to promote self interest in any matter possible. It could not be used for spreading any political or religious propaganda as well. There must not be any provision of junk food in the supply by the donors. Before the food would be distributed to the school students it must be tasted by the head of the institution for safety and hygiene purposes.
