The Border Security Force (BSF) was established on 1 December 1965 and is a border patrol agency of the Government of India. It is one of the Central Armed Police Forces and guards India's international borders during peacetime and also prevents transnational crime. BSF comes under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs and is one of the world's largest border patrol forces with a strength of 240,000 personnel in 186 battalions, including women battalions.
