Most Common Mistakes That Can Deduct Your Marks in CBSE Exams

Here are some common mistakes that students often make in exams and end up losing crucial marks. We have also provided valuable suggestions to avoid these mistakes, helping you perform well in your CBSE Board Exam 2024.

1. Being Late for the Exam

Arriving at the exam centre close to the scheduled time can disrupt the exam process, leading to unnecessary stress and anxiety.

Suggestion: Arrive at your exam centre at least 30 minutes prior to your exam start time so that you have enough time to complete any pre-exam formalities, find your seat, and be mentally prepared for the exam.

2. Not Reading Instructions Carefully

Many students, in haste, do not read the instructions carefully. This can lead to solving questions incorrectly or providing wrong answers.

Suggestion: Before starting the exam, read and understand all the instructions carefully. Utilise 15 minutes question paper reading time meticulously to understand all instructions thoroughly and approach each question correctly.

3. Not Understanding Questions Properly

Many students, overwhelmed by the board exam pressure, fail to read the questions carefully and end up writing incorrect answers.

Suggestion: Read and understand each question thoroughly to provide accurate and relevant information for securing good marks in exams.

4. Poor Time Management

Some students struggle with managing their time effectively during exam writing. This, ultimately, leads to skipping some questions resulting in loss of crucial marks for them.

Suggestion: Plan your exam writing in advance, allocating a specific time for solving each question. Stick to the schedule to ensure you don’t spend more than the required time on a particular question in exam.

5. Being Stressed During the Exam

Being stressed during the exam can disrupt students' concentration, leading to forgetting the correct answers and not being able to manage time effectively.

Suggestion: Practice relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, and maintain a positive mindset to stay calm and focused during the exam.

6. Writing Unclear and Oversized Answers

Writing unclear and disorganized answers, and including extensive information can not only lead to the loss of marks for students but also waste their crucial time.

Suggestion: Write neat and clear answers which are scripted concisely and include only relevant information. Adhere to the prescribed word limit and weightage assigned to each answer.

7. Spelling and Grammatical Errors

Spelling and grammar mistakes are quite common while writing the board exam where students are influenced by the hype and stress of exam.

Suggestion: Never forget to review your answers to correct the spelling and grammar mistakes if any. It’s better to spare 10-15 minutes at the end to revise your answer sheet before submitting it to the examiner.
