    Ans. A key is basically printed information or a computer software package which serves as taxonomical aids in identifying unknown organisms.Q. What is the role of heterocysts present in blue-green algae?

    Q. Give a difference between the tendrils of Pisum and tendrils of Cucurbita.

    Ans. In Curcubita, Tendrils are present at 90° to the leaf petioles at nodes. In Pisum, terminal leaflets are modified into tendrils.

    Q. Define the following.

    (a) Tegmina

    (b) Prostomium

    Ans. (a) Tegmina: Leather-like forewings found in insects like locusts, grasshoppers and crickets are called tegmina.

            (b) Prostomium: Prostimium is a sensory structure found above the mouth of earthworm.

    Q. What role is played by carrier proteins, present in the cell membrane, in the intercellular transport of substances?

    Ans. Carrier proteins are membrane proteins that help in the movement of substances by facilitated diffusion or active transport (use of ATP).

    Q. Which stage of prophase-I of meiosis-I is marked by the pairing of chromosomes?

    Ans. In zygotene stage of prophase I pairing of chromosomes take place.

    Q. Name the hormones produced by the gastrointestinal tract.

    Ans. Gastrin, Cholecystokinin and Secretin.
