CBSE Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign 2024: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a circular regarding the Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign 2024. The board aims to encourage students on service towards clearing and hygiene that is referred to as Swachhata Hi Sewa (SHS). The circular mentions the activities that schools can perform on the Swachh Bharat Diwas 2024. This day will be celebrated on October 2, which is the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. The SHS is being jointly organised by the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs. Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign 2024 Activities
The theme for this year’s Swachhata Diwas campaign is “Swabhav Swachhata—Sanskaar Swachhata.” Considering the importance of hygiene and sanitation in schools and communities, the CBSE board has released a list of activities that need to be conducted throughout the Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign 2024. i. Swachhta Shapath by the students and teachers on 'Swabhav Swachhata - Sanskar Swachhata' |
ii. Cleanliness drive in the schools, hostels and educational institutions to remove the garbage/ waste with the help of teachers. |
iii. Essay/ Poem/ Debate/ slogan writing/ Quiz and Painting on 'Swabhav Swachhata - Sanskaar Swachhata’, importance of waste Management and Elimination of Single Use plastic etc. |
v. A selfie point may be installed at entry points of schools on the theme of Swachhata Hi Sewa encouraging engagement of students/ teachers/ school staff/ parents to pride in cleanliness through interactive Photo opportunities. |
v. Human chain events may be organized where students/ teachers/ people from the community join hands to raise awareness and demonstrate commitment to cleanliness and sanitation. |
vi. Street Play/ Nukkad natak may be performed in schools or nearby areas to educate and entertain while promoting cleanliness initiatives. |
vii. Tree plantation of saplings in schools, hostels and educational institutions areas on the lines of the hugely popular Ek-Ped-Maa-Ke-Naam. |
viii. Awareness Rallies/ Prabhat Pheri with students/ teachers/ school staff with slogans on Swachhata Hi Sewa and 'Swabhav Swachhata - Sanskaar Swachhata' theme to create awareness in the community |
ix. School level Cultural events promoting the sanitation Journey of the country. |
x. Swachhata Classes/ Swachhata ki Pathshala/ Swachhata Samvad/ Educational Sessions/ workshops for students/ teachers about cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene practices |
xi. Health check-up camps may be organized for Safari Mitra/ Sanitation workers and their dependents at Block/ District level |
What is Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign?
The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign is a nationwide initiative in India aimed at promoting cleanliness and sanitation. Launched by the Indian government, it encourages citizens to actively participate in cleaning their surroundings, public spaces, and homes. The campaign is part of the larger Swachh Bharat Mission and focuses on spreading awareness about the importance of hygiene, waste management, and reducing plastic use. It usually involves activities like cleanliness drives, tree planting, and waste segregation, with the goal of creating a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
Swachhata Hi Seva Themes
In August 2017, the Hon'ble Prime Minister encouraged people's participation in swachhata at his Mann Ki Baat address. Since then, the annual "Swachhata Hi Seva" (SHS) campaign has been held to encourage widespread citizen participation and ownership for swachhata. It runs from September 15 to October 2 (Swachh Bharat Diwas). Over the years, SHS has focused on the following themes:
