In a meeting of the Delhi University's Academic Council, it was decided to drop AK Ramanujan essay called ‘Three Hundred Ramayanas' from its history syllabus.
The Academic Council of the university allegedly surrendered to the pressures from Right-wing groups which demanded the removal on the grounds of hurting religious sentiments. The ban on the essay had been the biggest let down for the teaching alliance and Students' Federation of India who had been protesting it since initial ban in October.
The Students' Federation of India has decided to organise protest and talks on essay by fellow academics. An online petition against the ban has already started online and more protests are planned next week against the decision.
