As a part of new amendments brought in the Delhi University admission procedure 2014, DU is offering 40 subjects as the academic and elective subjects that will be available as Discipline 1(Honours) courses is the new session starting in 2014-15.
The four year undergraduate programme by Delhi University offers academic and elective subjects such as physics, chemistry, botany, geology, zoology, anthropology, microbiology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, maths, statistics, computer science, instrumentation, food technology, psychology, electronics, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Arabic, Bengali, Urdu, Persian, commerce, economics, political science, history, geography, philosophy, home science, physical education, sociology, polymer science, music, Punjabi, social work, French, German, Italian and Spanish. It also treats accountancy as equivalent to commerce and includes business studies, home science, physical education and music as academic or elective subjects that come under honours degree and students can opt these subjects as well.
The 40 Discipline subjects that are offered by the University will be treated as the academic or elective subjects unlike others and so will be under the process of calculating best-of-four percentage for courses in which the admissions are conducted. The Discipline 1 subjects will be treated as like other subjects and so it will have a 70% component of theory exam which excludes internal assessment, continuous evaluation.
Apart from all these, home science, music and physical education will be treated as academic or elective subjects along with biology and business studies fitting the same category.
