Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi University proposed a fee hike for two partime courses of three year duration each. It was proposed that the fee would be raised from Rs 11000 (at present) to Rs 50000 for their MBA (part time) and MBA (healthcare administration) courses in the upcoming academic session 2012-13. Apart from the fee hike, the names of the courses were proposed to be changed.
Also the duration of the courses was proposed to be altered. Under the new structure it was suggested that the students of part-time programmes will have to clear the courses within a period of four years and must have 75% attendance for appearing in the exams.
As proposed, the courses MBA (part time) and MBA (healthcare administration) will now be known as MBA (executive) and MBA (executive healthcare administration).
As a part of the proposal it was suggested that the total student intake will be lowered as well. Presently, the B-school admits 232 students for the MBA (part time) course; after the new structure is implemented, only 172 will be absorbed. In the healthcare administration course, the B-school will admit 42 students instead of 37.
The gradual declination in the number of takers for the two courses over the few years prompted the officials to propose a new structure. According to FMS officials, the new structure of the MBA courses will be more intensive and convenient for the students.
The proposals are likely to be approved by the academic and executive councils on 20 March 2012 and 21 March 2012 respectively.
