Post the announcement of CAT 2017 result, FMS Delhi or Faculty of Management Science, Delhi has announced that the B-school will release the list of shortlisted candidates for MBA admission 2018 in February. According to the official reports, the MBA institute is planning to maintain a 10:1 candidate ratio for MBA admission 2018. With the total intake of the B-school 216 seats, this year approx. 2160 candidates are likely to be shortlisted for admission process. While the increase in the shortlisted candidates might sound like good news to few, but it will also increase the competition in GD-PI rounds manifolds. The institute has also modified or changed their CAT 2017 cut-off or CAT 2017 shortlisting criteria this year.

FMS Delhi Shortlisting Criteria Changed

Tweaking their CAT 2017 cut-off or shortlisting criteria, the FMS Delhi has made it more tough for CAT 2017 candidates to get through the GD/PI rounds. The new rules related to selection or shortlisting of CAT 2017 candidates will make it tough for 99 and 98 percentilers to get a call from FMS Delhi this year. MBA programmed offered by FMS Delhi is a high RoI programme and many CAT 2017 toppers and 99 percentilers would have this B-school in their wish-list during the MBA admission season.

CAT 2017 score weight reduced

The key change in the FMS Delhi CAT 2017 cut-off criteria is the drastic reduction in the weight awarded to CAT 2017 score. Last year, CAT 2017 score carried around 85% weight in the shortlisting or selection criteria; but this year this has been cut-down to 60% only. For instance, if you are a CAT 2017 topper with 100 percentile, when it comes to FMS Delhi shortlisting criteria, you would only be awarded 60 points on a 100 point scale for shortlisting. The rest 40 points have been awarded to other parameters.

CAT 2017 sectional percentile weight

On top of reducing the CAT 2017 weight in the FMS Delhi selection criteria, the B-school has also awarded individual weight to sectional percentile. The details for the same can be found in the table below:

CAT 2017 Section

Weight in FMS Delhi Selection Criteria

Quantitative Aptitude (QA)

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning

The above given break-up or section-wise weight of CAT 2017 score has made it very difficult for CAT 2017 toppers also to get admission in FMS Delhi. Under this equation, who has scored 100 percentile in each of the three sections, may lag behind a candidate with 98 percentile overall and 100 percentile in VARC section as it carries 40% weight in shortlisting criteria. Consequently, many 99 and some even 98 percentilers may also find their name in the FMS Delhi MBA admission shortlist over other CAT 2017 toppers who have scored the perfect score of 100.

Drive to improve academic and gender diversity on Campus

Like all major B-schools in the country, FMS Delhi has also started a drive to enhance gender diversity on the campus by ensuring that more women candidates are shortlisted for the MBA admission 2018. As part of this, 3% additional weight would be awarded to female candidates while preparing the final merit list for FMS Delhi.

As per the B-school, “To encourage diversity of Gender and Academic Disciplines, for the purpose of shortlisting candidates for Interview Process different weightages shall be assigned to the scores of different sections of the CAT 2017. A composite score shall be computed giving weightages of 30%, 30%, and 40% to the scores of QA, DI/LR and VRC sections respectively as provided by the CAT Centre for the CAT 2017 Examination for candidates who apply to FMS.” More weight attached to VARC section would help in the shortlisting of candidates from non-engineering background.

FMS Delhi – Personal Interview Dates

As part of the final selection procedure, FMS Delhi also conducts a Personal Interview round. The PI round as part of FMS Delhi admission procedure would be held in the month of April. The B-school conducts the Personal Interview round for CAT 2017 candidates at Delhi only. Therefore, candidates shortlisted for FMS Delhi admission 2018 will have to attend the PI round on the campus of B-school.
