Every year there are lakhs of students who sit for an entrance to get into a MBA college. It is not just the degree that makes MBA a desirable course but also the high salary packages that come along with it. There is a plethora of institutes that exist across the country with variety of MBA and PGDM courses to offer. But when going for a MBA or a PGDM program, which is full-time, it is important to identify certain aspects of the institute that you want to enroll yourself in. There are about 2990 MBA and/or PGDM providing colleges in India and this sure makes selecting the one suitable for you difficult.  Let’s have a look at the important points to remember when you on selecting the institute for a full time program.

1. UGC and other recognitions

The first and foremost thing that should be kept in mind is the accreditations that the institute has. Accreditation is generally referred to as the certificate of competence in a specified subject or areas of expertise and also the degree’s integrity is established through the same.

The UGC recognition is considered to be the most important as it provides a worldwide validity to your degree. If your degree has UGC recognition then you are eligible to appear for a lot of exams and government job entrances. Some institutes also aim for international accreditation. Apart from UGC recognition, the evaluation and approval from AICTE (All India Council for technical Education) and NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) are also valid and essential.

2. Faculty & Curriculum

These two are the most important factors that play a significant role while selecting a college. It should be the curriculum that makes you decide which institute you want to get into and not otherwise. Also the faculties that are associated and their respective qualifications and/or achievements add to the value of the institute.

On an average the faculties at good MBA colleges have around 5+ years of industry experience and/or they have been into teaching for long. The faculties having industrial experience can provide you with healthy insight of how the things are in practical. This further accentuates the quality of education and narrative instances that you are being exposed to. The curriculum details are important because you should be well aware of what is it that you are going to study in next two years. You can compare and contrast the curriculum of different institutes and find the one that you like the most.

3. Placements

Most of us get ourselves enrolled in a MBA/PGDM program not just because of the degree that we are going to get in the end but also for the fat packages that we get in return. The placements cell, placements committee, the companies that visit the college for placements are also important while looking for a perfect college/institute for you. The importance of placements lies in the fact that you should be able to make good returns on the investment that you have made. It is also important to find out the details of the companies that actually visit the respective colleges for the placement purpose. The kind of profiles that these companies have on offer along with the pay packages can play an influential role on your decision of selecting a particular college.

4. Reputation & Ranking

The ranking of the college and the reputation it holds is of significance. The college is ranked based on various factors and their combinations. These factors are identified and surveyed through magazines, newspapers, websites, government, companies and/or academicians. The survey factors include the faculty, curriculum, placements, companies that visit the college, alumni, etc. There is also an inclusion of wealth, research excellence, selectivity, student options, eventual success, demographics and other criteria.

The reputation of the college in turn is inflicted on your degree. It is therefore vital to select a college that has the reputation as per your desire. In case the college is not doing well then there are chances that you suffer in the long run due to the bad impression that the college holds.

5. Location & Cost

Another factor, though not that important yet influential is the location of the college and the cost that you are to incur during the program. The fees of some colleges can be as low as INR 1,00,000 per annum and can go as high as INR 10,00,000 per annum. It completely depends on where your college is located and what amenities it sis providing you with.

In the end I will like to conclude with the saying that it is about choices. You choice your destiny! You need to give a thought and consider all the possibilities available before jumping to any conclusions. It is not about the name of the college but the knowledge and experience that you gained there. It is also important to consider the curriculum because until you get nothing of your liking you won’t be able to enjoy this program, which is full of fun and learning experience.
