The Infosys co-founder Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnaan has joined the IIT-Madras Board of Directors on 17 October 2013. He is an alumnus of the institute.
Bhaskar Ramamurthi (Director of IIT-Madras) stated in a press release that Kris Gopalakrishnan personifies a generation of engineer-scientists that made India representing itself as a global player in the software industry. He also said that the experience of Kris Gopalakrishnan would prove to be a priceless asset to the IIT Madras institute.
Kris Gopalakrishnan, is an Alumnus of IIT-Madras, he joined it in 1975 and graduated with degree of M.Sc in Physics and M.Tech in computer Science. He began his career as a Software Engineer in Patni Computer Systems followed by soon becoming its Assistant Project Manager. He later became Executive vice-chairman of Infosys Technologies.
Currently, he is the President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Council, besides also being a member of the ACM, IEEE and IEEE Computer Society. He also serves as a guest lecturer on software quality and productivity, in both Indian and abroad institutes.
The Gopalakrishnan stated in a press release that as an alumnus of IIT-Madras it is a great honour for him to have got invited and joining the Board of Directors of this reputed institute. This is an opportunity for him to hold up the institute's operations as a board member. Knowing the importance of continuously raising the education stature and standard of research of an Institution, he looks forward in contributing the same for the IIT –Madras.
