The United Kingdom Government has decided to raise the global scholarship funding for Indian students   by huge margins and over the next two years has decided to make India the largest recipient of scholarships leaving China behind in the second position.

In declaring funding of one such scholarship that is provided to Indian students from Chevening scholarships, the British government has raised the amount from 600,000pounds (approx. 5 crore) in 2013-14 to 1.6 million pounds (approx. 15 crore) in 2014-15. The expected raise in the amount of this scholarship in 2015-16 is about 2.4million pounds (approx. 22.5crore).

The Chevening scholarship is provided to one year Master degree students and students who are attaining short term programmes and possess outstanding academic qualifications. With 1.51 million pounds invested in more than 750 scholarship programmes, the UK has extended huge support to Indian students in the last two year.

After successfully completing the courses the students could stay onto work in UK for three long yeas, which can further get extended to three more years. Over last decade almost 2.5 lakh Indians have studies in UK and have shaped their career in the offshore.

Along with this the British Council has also announced a new programme named, ‘Generation UK’. In this programme it is planned to bring at least 25,000 UK students to India over the period of next five years, so that India could get promoted to be as a destination among UK youth as the place to study and work in future.
