Selection Procedure for Admission in Indian Institute of Science Bangalore
Candidates will be selected on the basis of the different selection procedures mentioned below
- Research Programmes (PhD/ MSc (Engg)): Qualifying in one of the following appropriate Tests (with validity as on 1st of August 2012) is mandatory: CSIR-UGC NET for JRF; OR UGC-NET for JRF; OR DBT JRF; OR ICMR JRF; OR JEST 2012; OR NBHM 2012; OR IISc Entrance Test 2012; OR GATE 2011/ 2012. Qualifying in these tests is not mandatory but desirable for candidates who possess a Master's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ M Sc(Engg) or MS or MBA (post BE/ B Tech) and wish to apply for the departments in the Engineering Faculty, including those candidates awarded with INSPIRE Fellowship
- Course Programmes
a) Master of Engineering (ME): Selection is based on valid GATE score only
b) Master of Technology (M Tech): Selection for (i) Electronic Systems Engineering,(ii) Computational Science, (iii) Climate Science, (iv) Transportation & Infrastructure Engineering is based on an aptitude test and interview subsequent to short-listing based on valid GATE score and for (v) Instrumentation based on valid GATE score only
c) Master of Design (M Des) in Product Design & Engineering: Selection is based on a Design Aptitude Test and interview subsequent to short-listing based on valid GATE/ CEED scores
d) Master of Management (M Mgt): Selection is based on a group discussion and interview subsequent to short-listing based on valid GATE/ CAT scores (Note: IISc uses CAT scores for short-listing the candidates for M Mgt programme. IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the programme.)
- Integrated PhD Programmes: The short-listing of candidates for interview is based on the performance in the IISc Entrance Test 2012
- External Registration Programmes (PhD only): Qualifying in one of the tests; IISc Entrance Test, CSIR-UGC NET for JRF,UGC-NET for JRF, DBT JRF, ICMR JRF, GATE, NBHM, etc. Selection will be based on candidate's performance in the interview to be conducted at IISc
IISc Entrance Test is conducted in Atmospheric Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Ecological Sciences, Mathematics, Management Studies, and Materials Science subjects.

- ERP candidates (All categories): Rs 1500
- Sponsored candidates (Defence, DRDO, BARC, ISRO, NAL, KSRTC, BMTC, BDA, CPRI): Rs 600

How to Apply for Admission in Indian Institute of Science Bangalore: Interested candidates can apply online on the website www.iisc.ernet.in/admissions for e-brochure and application. Sponsored candidates from Defence, DRDO, BARC, ISRO, NAL, KSRTC, BMTC, BDA and CPRI applying for the course programmes should compulsorily fill in the online application form and submit the printed version before the last date.
