Depending upon the seat availability and the performance of the candidates, the ranks may vary each year. The branches like computer science, electronics, electrical, mechanical in older IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Roorkee and Madras) have a higher cut off and opening-closing ranks but the preference of a branch and institute is solely the choice of a candidate.
