The Joint Admission Board (JAB) of the IIT gave the final nod for the much debated common entrance test for Undergraduate Program for the year 2013.
As per the new rules, the admission would be made on the basis of percentile ranking. The JAB meet followed approval of the resolution of the council, the highest decision making body of the IITs, by the IIT senates which examined the resolution along some modifications over the last couple of weeks in the month of July 2012.
As per the new format adopted by the IIT council, the whole thing will comprise a two-tier system, which will be the main and an advance test. Students clearing the advance test would be considered for admission, provided they are amongst the top twenty percentile in their boards.
The new format will allow around 1.50 lakh students to sit for the advance test. Earlier, IIT-Delhi along with IIT-Kanpur had e rejected the common entrance test.
