Every Central and State Government Universities, Government Colleges and Autonomous Colleges and other educational institutions is functioned by Registrar and Assistant Registrar. The Registrar is the utmost head of the university and takes all the important decisions for it. Assistant Registrar comes just after the Registrar, where he/she have the responsibility of non-academic departments like Admin, Accounts, Audit, etc. of institutions.

Assistant Registrar (Non-Teaching) is appointed in these institutions as second-class gazetted officer. The job description of Assistant Registrar (non-teaching) is to look after the non-academic administrative functions at the right time like management and supervision of the operations of the Admissions and Registration, Articulation and Assessment Services and Information Services Units within the Registrar’s Office. Assistant Registrar is expected to handle multiple responsibilities, solving complex problems and supporting the Registrar with daily office chores.

Eligibility Criteria for Assistant Registrar

Educational Qualification

To become an Assistant Registrar (Non Teaching), it is necessary for the candidate to have a Post Graduate Degree with minimum 55% marks in any subject. In addition, the candidate should have minimum five years experience of non-academic work in any educational institution. Experience can be in these areas - Examination, Academic, Establishments, General Administration, R & D, Student Affairs, Finance / Audit and Accounts, Estate Management, etc.

In addition, candidates having the following qualifications are given preference in selection -

  • Degree in Law / Management etc. from a recognized University.
  • Chartered or cost accountant qualification (CFA / CS / CA / ICWA) from a recognized university / institution
  • SAS Passed by Accountants and Audit Dept. SAS

Age Limit

To become an Assistant Registrar (Non Teaching), it is important that the candidate is between 18 years and 35 years of age. However, in some institutions, the maximum age limit is 38 or 40 years. Reserved category candidates are exempted according to the maximum age limit as per government rules.

Selection Procedure of Assistant Registrar

Generally candidates are on ​​the basis of Academic Records, performance in non-academic work and personal examination (Personal Interview). However, if more applications are received according to vacancies, then the concerned institution can organize written examination.

Salary Structure of Assistant Registrar

As per Govt. rules, pay-band 3 of Sixth Pay Commission is for Assistant Registrar, Rs. 15600-39100 and grade pay 5400. In the organization which has been implemented in the Seventh Pay Commission, salary is given in accordance with the same level.
