Eligibility Criteria for Admission in Physical Research Laboratory
- Bachelors Degree with minimum 60% marks or its equivalent. The candidate should have taken Physics and Mathematics at the Under Graduate level
- MSc with minimum 60% marks in any of the following subjects Physics, Space Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry (Physical / Nuclear / Analytical), Geology, Geophysics, Ocean Sciences and Climate Sciences
Age Limit (as on 31 December 2012): Maximum 25 years
Selection Procedure for Admission in Physical Research Laboratory: The admission shall be through a written test, Post Graduate level syllabi of Indian Universities, to be conducted by the Physical Research Laboratory including the candidates applying through various competitive examinations like JEST/GATE/CSIR-UGC-NET-JRF. Candidates with high scores in JEST / GATE / UGC-CSIR NET – JRF shall be exempted from taking the test.
Candidates qualifying the written will be called for interview and henceforth shortlisted candidates will be selected as JRFs at PRL.
Candidates whose results are awaited at the time of interview will be admitted provisionally. They will be confirmed admission in PRL subject to their securing at least 60% marks in the qualifying examination i.e. MSc.
Fellowship: Rs 16000 for an year which will be raised to 18000 in the following (for 2 years). Besides this, the candidates will be paid a book grant of Rs 7,500 per year for five years to purchase books that are relevant to the research work being carried out by the Research Fellow.
In addition, the Physical Research Laboratory may provide a one time, full travel support for participating in an International Meeting/Conference (maximum of Rs 1 lakh only) during the entire tenure as JRFs / SRFs. Also, all expenses connected with the registration for Ph.D. degree, such as, tuition fees and examination fees will be borne by PRL.
