SSC JE and RRB JE- which one is better?

There are a lot of candidates who used to attend SSC JE and RRB JE both and prepare simultaneously. Sometimes, after interview most of the candidates select in both examinations. Then, it is obvious that there will be a confusion and misunderstanding in choosing the right. In this article, we will talk about certain most discussed criteria in these examinations likewise, recruitment process, pay band, nature of Job and transfers, etc.




  1. This computer based test.

This is partially computer based examination.

  1. There are 150 MCQ questions.

This is also MCQ asked question test followed by the written test.

  1. Questions are framed from aptitude section as well from all engineering branches.

Questions are asked from the candidate branch only.

  1. Candidates can apply only area wise. For instance, if you have filled the form from Secunderabad, then after selection you will be posted at Secunderabad.

Whereas this all India based examination and you will be posted at anywhere across the nation.

  1. Selection rate is about 100-300 out of thousands of candidates.

Whereas in SSC JE, this is comparatively low i.e. about 100-200 out of thousands of candidates.

Pay band

Pay band is same for the both posts i.e. Rs. 9300-34800.

Nature of Job

Through SSC JE, you may get posted in CPWD, MES and postal departments. While in RRB JE, you can be shifted to TRD, IT, workshop, P-Way and bridge.  The nature of the job is not fixed at all and it depends upon whether you are placed in RRB and SSC.

Other facilities





Due to frequent loss in this department, they are not in a situation to provide better housing for its employees.

Whereas it is far better than RRB.

Travelling fare

You are offered 1st class AC fare and other discounts on railway tickets.

You get airfare once in a year for spending vacation anywhere in India.

Work area

It involves a lot of field work.

Whereas it is totally office based job.


It offers very limited growth.

Whereas SSC JE offers you study leave for higher education so that you can get further promotions.

After overall analysis, we can conclude that that SSC JE is a white collared job, whereas RRB JE is a blue collared job. Both the exams are extremely competitive in nature & Every job has its own advantages and disadvantages.

One wouldn't know which of these jobs suits her/him unless she/he experiences it.
