New courses on water studies have been launched by TERI University, which is to be commenced from the current academic session 2014. Coca-Cola Foundation along with TERI University has launched the department of regional water studies which offers various programmes under the new entity.
The course is believed to be very job oriented and also need based. It is likely to provide a systematic amalgamation of huge knowledge related with water under a common platform that will support learning through an interdisciplinary approach.
The water study course includes sections of water quantity and resource assessment, water quality and treatment methods, water economics and financial management; water law, policy and governance and sustainability aspects. The main objective behind this course is to strengthen regional co-operation around water resources by establishing networks of water management professionals within the SAARC region and beyond.
This course will help students to cater jobs in several industries as of in MNCs, NGOs, various consultancies, the different grass root organizations and also research institutes.
According to Arun Kansal, professor and head, Coca-Cola department of regional water studies, TERI University explains the idea that such a course is to examine the water issues in an interdisciplinary framework that will bring in cultural, educational and scientific factors as well as religious, ethical, social, political, legal, institutional and economic dimensions with a better, holistic approach to water management.
