Indian Education is at the brink of a major setback as employmentlooms large. A study conducted by ASSOCHAM asserts only 7 per cent of the management graduates churned out by the 5,500 B-schools of India are employable.
Interdisciplinary education is a popular and established idea in the West. Credit system allows a person to acquire varying degree of mastery in a field of choice. The level of specialization is designated by the major and minor subject chosen.
For example a student becomes a Major in Economics after earning a prescribed number of credits. The same student can solidify his knowledge of Economics by learning about an allied subject such asmanagement practices. On the other a completely divergent interest such as European literature can be pursued. The relevant number of credits in the extra course work will entitle a minor degree.
Interdisciplinary education is yet to be established in India. The UGC has prescribed a choice-based credit system (CBCS) to facilitate this brand of learning. However, only a few centers of learning teach with this philosophy.
Quantum University a newly launched university thinks differently. Quantum hasdecided to apply this new philosophy of education in a dynamic avatar to smooth out many wrinkles in traditional educational.
They wish toimplement interdisciplinary education with an edge. Also “passion programmes” are uniquely designed to endow new meaning to education at Quantum. These will be independent set of courses addressing the passions that are usually buried under the weight of traditional education. It would allow one to explore the nuances of fields like photography, painting, dance, music, design and many more.
Students will be able to study these programmes along with the normal course of study at Quantum. These courses aim to enhance the aesthetic sense of a student making the learning fun and wholesome.
Now a U.S. survey has shown that on an average a person changes at least 10 professions in his lifetime. Instead of preparing a career for life, Quantum shall prepare students for a life of multiple careers.Now only will quantum prepare the student for careers but life itself.
