It has been rightly stated by someone that practice makes you perfect. The more you do practice, better you become. The same theory applies to IAS aspirants who are going to appear this year for IAS exam. The first hurdle is prelim stage. It demands a lot of prior practice before you appear for exam. Therefore, there can’t be an alternative to online test series which help you assess your exam preparation level.

A Case Study of Two Students

Let me clarify this point with one example. Suppose there are two students, A and B. Both are preparing for IAS prelim exam. Student A is more intelligent as compared to Student B and the former has an upper edge over the latter where knowledge is concerned. But B daily takes two or three mock tests to assess his preparation level. It makes him aware of his weak and strong areas. If he fails to score in Science portion he starts going through science topics more intensively. If history is his strong area he doesn’t devout too much time for that section. Whereas, A doesn’t give importance to mock tests and scatters his energy to various sections in an unplanned manner. Slowly and gradually, B is in a better position in comparison to A. He is more confident and more accurate than A. He also starts scoring better than A. And when the doomsday arrives, the type B students certainly do better than type A students in exams.

Mock Tests are required for Upgrading Yourself

The essence of the above example is that students must understand that competitive exam is different from university exam both in nature and strategy. One needs to consistently upgrade himself to beat other competitors. Being a good student is not sufficient to ensure your success in exam. You need to be better than the others. And testing yourself before the actual test is the winning strategy.
