CBSE Class 12 Chemistry Exam Writing Tips

1. First 15 minutes is the Key

CBSE Board allows students to read the question paper in detail and with calmness for the first 15 minutes before the commencement of the exam. Students should wisely utilise this time and focus on devising a strategy for the rest 3 hours. Reading and analysing the question paper can actually ensure that you end up completing the exam on time while still saving some for revision. Time management also ensures that students write all the answers slowly and calmly.

2. Know The Trick for MCQs

Multiple choice questions can steal away most of your time. Hence, we would advise students to skip the portion and start writing the exam backward. However, if you are confident enough about time management, you can start with the first section itself. The key to solving MCQs is practise. Students should practise as many MCQs as possible. Read between the lines of your text and make notes to ensure that you don’t miss out on minute details.

3. Keep the Word Limit In Mind

For the rest of the sections, certain marks are allotted to each question. It is important to keep track of the word limit since you have to save time and prevent yourself from over-explaining yourself in questions of definition or theory-based questions. Check the word limit provided to you in the general instructions part of the question paper and write the answers accordingly.

4. Don’t Divert. Keep the Focus on Track

The answers should be concise, to the point, and short. Students should avoid writing long and detailed answers for questions that don’t require such length. Answer all the questions with appropriate and to-the-point answers. Do not write unnecessary details for filling the sheets or answering a question you have no idea about. This might irritate the examiner.

5. Cross Check Numerical Answers

Since students are in a rush to complete the paper, they might end up calculating wrongly or applying the wrong formula. Hence, we would advise you to cross-check your answers and formula at least once after completing the paper. Also, make sure that all the steps of the process have been mentioned and adhered to. Skipping the steps in between might lead to unnecessary deduction of marks.

6. Write Formulas Carefully

Again, formulas can go wrong or appear wrong if written in a hurry. Read the question again and ensure that you have applied the right formula. Also, make sure that you write the formula clearly, such that it does not get misinterpreted by the examiner.

7. Check Your Chemical Reactions Twice

Chemical reactions are another segment where students have a high tendency of loosing out on unnecessary marks in Chemistry. Students should always check the molecular formula, balancing of the equations, correct conversion, and more details before submitting their paper.

We hope this article adds to your knowledge and prevents you from committing an unknown mistake in the exam. All the best for exams!
