Often it happens that students make up their mind to study well, they make a proper schedule, organise their study material and desk but somehow, they end up not studying. This could be due to various reasons and solely students are not to be blamed for this because they intend to study but these reasons hinder their studies.
In this article, we are discussing the various reasons that come in between students and their studies and what steps students can take to minimise the wastage of their study time –
What stops students from studying?
Friends and family members often become a reason of disturbance when you are studying. They do not intend to disturb you but, sometimes when they are not aware of your study plans or when some event comes up they may interrupt your studies. Friends generally request to leave studies and hang out with them and out of courtesy, you accept their request leaving your studies.
Students do not set their goals right because they think that they need certain marks to qualify the exams so they need not study more than the required marks. This is wrong because it limits your studies and you may not get marks if the concepts you studied will not be asked in the test. The exams cover the entire syllabus of the subject and it is uncertain which concept will carry more weight in the test paper irrespective of the important topics. So, a student who does not study well enough or study less than sufficient will suffer at the end.
Often it happens that students follow the schedule strictly, they set one or two hours for a subject and if the time is over they leave it there itself irrespective of this that they get a complete understanding about the concept or not.
Mostly, students have this thought in their mind that, they have more than sufficient time to study or, there will be no harm if they study later. With this thought in their mind, they set wrong priorities and delay their studies. They find irrelevant reasons for not studying like sometimes, they won’t get their study material, or the lighting is not right in the study room/ study desk is not comfortable; all these useless reasons become a barrier in their studies.
Another most common reason for not studying is that they suffer from laziness and due to this they cannot concentrate and lose interest in studies. They tend to sleep or nap while studying and this wastes their study time.
Students under exam pressure suffer from stress or even some troubles in the family or their own personal life also gives them stress. It affects their mental health and they are constantly under tension and because of these factors they are not able to concentrate on their study.
Social media, entertainment and extracurricular activities, become a barrier to studies because students spend more than required time in these activities and hence, their studies suffer.
What can students do to avoid this?
Whenever you decide to study, you can talk to your family members and friends about this to inform them about your study plan and request them not to disturb you during that duration. This way, they can adjust their activities accordingly and also, if your participation in any event or activity is urgently required than you too can adjust your study plan accordingly.
If your friends or classmates often talk to/ask you questions for study purposes then, you can make a study group where you all can study together so that, you can ask each other about your doubts in any concept. This will be helpful for you as well because you too will get study partner and clear your doubts while studying and you would not be waiting for help. Make sure there are only students or friends who are sincerely participating in studies only.
If you are already a part of a study group where your classmates or friends are participants but instead of studying they discuss irrelevant things like school extracurricular activities, personal life activities or unnecessary things not related to studies then we advise you to leave that group right now. You need to accompany students who only concentrate on studies if they have formed a study group. All irrelevant activities can be done in your free time but in your study schedule, you should only focus on your studies.
If you are feeling stressed then you can work towards minimising it so that it doesn’t hamper your studies. For minimising stress, you can seek help from elders, friends, or even counsellors so as to get right guidance from them. Talk about your feelings and concerns about your studies. Seeking help from others will surely benefit you. Also, students themselves can minimise their stress by participating in activities like reading books, listening songs, chatting with friends or even meditation as this will divert their mind and they will be relieved from stress.
Do not limit your studies to a schedule or a thought that you have more than required time for studying. You need to regularly study and revise for your upcoming examinations. This way, you will be able to cover up your complete syllabus as well as regular practice and revision will strengthen your concept knowledge. This is a strategic approach to your studies and it will be of great help in scoring well in your exams. Also, if your syllabus will be completely covered, then you will be confident about your good results and you won’t suffer from exam fear or stress.
Students need to maintain their mental and physical health and for this, they should exercise regularly, eat good and healthy food as well as, get complete rest by sleeping for at least 6-8 hours. By following a healthy approach in their life, students won’t be affected by stress, laziness or procrastination as well and their studies will not suffer.
Conclusion: Students need to identify the reasons that stop them from studying because if they do not take corrective measures on time then they will see negative effects on their studies and ultimately on the result. Follow the tips mentioned in this article to avoid all such reason that stops you from studying.
