The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony was held on 16 January 2011. The Golden Globe Awards are sponsored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to recognise excellence in film, television both domestic and foreign. However, comedian and Awards Master of Ceremonies Ricky Gervais lampooned the HFPA numerous times throughout the ceremony ridiculing it for its obscurity outside of the Awards. Gervais with his sarcastic comments caused a chuckle among all luminaries present. The annual Golden Globes Awards ceremony marks the start of the Hollywood film industry's awards season which culminates in the annual Academy Awards also known as the Oscars.
