Union Cabinet on 22nd July 2010 approved four year term for Cabinet Secretary. Under the new provision Cabinet Secretary will continue to hold his office even after he reaches the age of superannuation. The new rule will allow the government to offer the next Cabinet Secretary uninterrupted four year term.
Incumbent Chief Secretary KM Chandrasekhar will benefit from the scheme. Earlier he was on a three year term.
