Culture Ministry to celebrate Sankalp Parva from June 28-July 12

Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (I/C) Prahlad Singh Patel announced on June 27, 2020 that the Ministry has decided to celebrate “Sankalp Parva” from June 28 to July 12, 2020 and plant trees as desired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Narendra Modi has called for planting of at least five trees either in Office campus or wherever it is possible, to ensure a clean and healthy environment of the country. 

Under “Sankalp Parva”, all the subordinate offices, academies, affiliated and attached institutions of the Culture Ministry have been urged to plant trees in their campus or surroundings wherever possible. 

Key Highlights 

The Ministry of Culture has recommended to plants five trees that have been identified by PM Modi and which represent the herbal heritage of our country. These include:

(i) Bargad 
(ii) Awla
(iii) Peepal
(iv) Ashok
(v) Bel

The Culture Minister said that if the sapling of these trees are not available then people may plant any other sapling of their choice.

The Minister has urged organizations to ensure that each employee plants at least one tree of his/her choice and over and above these five trees that should be planted as per the Prime Minister’s call.

The Institutions must also ensure that the employees take care of the plants planted by them during the year so that they survive and flourish. 

The Culture Minister urged all to participate in the Sankalp Parv campaign and share the photo of plantation with the hashtag #SankalpParv with the Ministry of Culture. 

Background 

Monsoon season has started in India, which is the right time for plantation. The Minister of Culture reiterated during the announcement of the Sankalp Parv campaign that the COVID-19 pandemic has shown the importance of a clean and healthy environment. He said that India’s herbal wealth has enough strength to enable us to sail through the period safely. He has urged everyone to participate in the campaign and take care of at least one plant to create a healthy environment and a flourishing Bharat.
