Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was on 21 August 2017 selected for the prestigious Global Agriculture Leadership Award 2017 by the Indian Council of Food and Agriculture (ICFA).
He was selected for the award for his innovative services rendered to the welfare of farmers and the farm sector.
Rao launched various initiatives for the welfare of farmers in the state such as providing free power to farmers, waiving off 1 lakh loan of every farmer, supplying fertilizers in time and announced to credit 4000 per acre per crop to every farmer.
His name was recommended by a Committee headed by agriculture scientist MS Swaminathan. The award will be presented to him on 5 September 2017 at Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi.
About Global Agriculture Leadership Award
• The award was instituted by Indian Council of Food and Agriculture in 2008 and since then, it is presented every year.
• Earlier prominent personalities who received ICFA leadership award were MS Swaminathan (2009), Sharad Pawar(2011), Dr Raman Singh(2013), Prakash Singh Badal(2014), Akhilesh Yadav(2015), Shivarj Singh Chauhan and Ratan Tata (2016).
