Rohit Sharma creates new Test record, surpasses Australia’s Don Bradman

Rohit Sharma has created a new record in test cricket. Sharma broke Australian cricketer Don Bradman's record of highest average in Test cricket on home soil during the Day 2 of India’s third test against South Africa at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi on October 20, 2019.
Rohit Sharma scored 212 runs during India’s first innings in the third test. This is his first double hundred in Test cricket. With the score, Sharma recorded an average of 99.84 on home soil, which is higher than Don Bradman’s average of 98.22 on home soil in test cricket.
Rohit Sharma along with Ajinkya Rahane set up an over 200-run partnership to steer India to a total of 497 runs in India’s first innings in the third test against South Africa. Ajinkya Rahane with his 115 runs scored his 11th test century during the match.
Rohit Sharma hit 28 fours and 6 sixes to bring up his huge total. Soon after he crossed the milestone, Sharma was caught by Lungi Ngidi off Kagiso Rabada’s ball.

Rohit Sharma with his maiden double century in Test cricket joined the elite list of batsmen to score a double century in both Tests and ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle are the only other batsmen to have achieved the feat previously. Sharma has scored three double centuries in One Day Internationals.
Rohit Sharma also broke the record of hitting the most number of sixes in a bilateral Test series. Sharma with a total of 19 sixes in the series surpassed West Indies' batsman Shimron Hetmyer, who had hit 15 sixes during a series against Bangladesh in 2018-19.
Overall, Rohit Sharma has scored 529 runs at an average of 132.25 during India’s three-test series against South Africa. He is left with one more innings in the last test. His previous scores included- 176, 127, 14 and 212.
