On the foundation day of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, 26 Sept 2010 nine scientists chosen for the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize 2010. Three women have for the first time figured in the list of nine scientists chosen for the prestigious award. For the year 2010 no award was announced in Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences and Mathematical Sciences categories. In the category of Chemical Sciences Professor Sandeep Verma of the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) was named for the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology 2010. The awardees for Biological Sciences are Sanjeev Galande of the National Centre for Cell Science, Pune and Shubha Tole of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. Important Information
Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology is awarded annually by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research for outstanding contribution in chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, geology, mathematics and medicines. The award aims to recognize outstanding Indian work in science and technology and is the highest award for science in India. The award which was first given in 1958 is named after the founder Director of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar. The Prize comprises a citation, a plaque, and a cash award of Rs. 500,000. In addition recipients also get Rs 15000 per month up to the age of 65 years.
