New Cheque Payment Rule to be implemented from January 1

The new Cheque Payment rule known as 'Positive Pay System' will become effective from January 1, 2021. The new rule will be applicable for cheque payment of over Rs 50000. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the Positive Pay System for Cheque Truncation System (CTS) in August 2020.

Swadhinata Sarak connecting India and Bangladesh to open on March 26

The ‘Swadhinata Sarak’, a road connecting India and Bangladesh, will be inaugurated on March 26, 2021. The information was shared by Dr. A K Abdul Momen, Bangladeshi Foreign Minister. The road will connect India with Bangladesh through the latter's Mujibnagar district.

India Post Payments Bank launches digital payment service DakPay

Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Minister for Communications, Electronics & IT and Law & Justice, launched the digital payment app ‘DakPay’. The Central Government has issued the guidelines for the COVID-19 Vaccination Drive in India. In the first phase of the drive, around 30 crore people will be vaccinated against the novel Coronavirus. The drive will begin with the availability of COVID-19 vaccines in India.

High Security Registration Plate now compulsory for vehicles in Delhi

Vehicles plying on the roads of national capital without the high-security registration plates will now get fined under the Central Motor Vehicles Act. Previously, the Delhi Transport Department had directed the people of to get their vehicles affixed with the colour-coded stickers and the high-security registration plates.

Rourkela city of Odisha has been selected as the second venue for the 2023 edition of FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup. Odisha's sports minister Tusharkanti Behera took this decision along with the FIH President Narinder Batra after reviewing the existing infrastructure of city.

The 55 years old Chilahati-Haldibari rail link between India and Bangladesh reopened on December 17, 2020 during a virtual summit between the Prime Ministers of both the nations. The railway line was closed during Indo-Pak war in 1965.

India gets 131st spot on the Human Development Index 2020

India was placed at the 131st position on the Human Development Index 2020 of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The countries that fetched the Top 5 spots on the Index are Norway, Ireland, Switzerland, Hongkong, and Iceland. The HDI evaluates and then ranks the countries on the basis of their education, health, and standard of living. 

India to make 300 million doses of Russian Sputnik V vaccine in 2021

As per the Head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev, India will make 300 million doses of Russian COVID-19 vaccine, Sputnik V, in 2021. The RDIF has already signed agreements with four top Indian manufacturers in this regard.

Qatar to host Asian Games 2030; Saudi Arabia to host 2034 edition

Qatar Capital Doha will be hosting the 2030 edition of Asian Games and Saudi Arabia's Capital Riyadh will host the 2034 edition of the games. The Olympic Council of Asia shared the information on December 16, 2020.
