Hand in Hand 2019: India-China Joint Military Exercise Begins in Meghalaya

The Armies of India and China conduct the joint military exercise ‘Hand in Hand 2019’ at Umroi Cantonment, Meghalaya. The exercise began on December 7 and will continue till December 20, 2019. Around 130 soldiers of the Tibet Military Command took part in the joint exercise on behalf of China and the equal number of Indian soldiers participated. The exercise aims to promote cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Paramilitary Forces to use Khadi in Uniforms

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently instructed the paramilitary personnel to wear Khadi uniforms. The heads of paramilitary forces were asked to allow the use of Make-in-India products like Khadi in the making of the uniforms. Once made ready, over 10 lakh soldiers would wear the Khadi uniforms. These soldiers would be from the Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Security Guard (NSG) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

The Lok Sabha passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 that seeks to provide Indian citizenship to the minority communities from three countries - Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. The passage of this bill created a ruckus in the parliament among opposition parties, which called it “an anti-minority bill”.
