1. (a) Chitra Mudgal
India's national academy of letters, Sahitya Akademi on December 6, 2018 announced the annual ‘Sahitya Akademi Awards 2018’, recognising the literary works of 24 writers in 24 different Indian languages. To name a few, this year’s winners include Sanjib Chattopadhyay for Bengali, Anees Salim for English, Sharifa Vijliwala for her essays in Gujarati, Chitra Mudgal for Hindi, and S Ramesan Nair for his poetry in Malayalam.
2. (b) Somalia
The United States re-established a "permanent diplomatic presence" in Somalia for the first time in 27 years. The department spokeswoman Heather Nauert called the new move another step forward in formalising US diplomatic engagement in Mogadishu.
3. (c) Brahmaputra
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the India’s longest rail-road bridge - Bogibeel Bridge on December 25, marked as the Good Governance Day (GGD). The 4.94 km long bridge connects the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra and falls in the eastern part of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Ministry of Railways’ National Rail Museum (NRM) signed pact with Madame Tussauds Wax Museum (MTWM) to foster tourism in Delhi NCR. It is first time ever public-private museum collaboration that shall attract more tourists to both NRM and MTWM.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been apprised of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and the United States of America (USA) concerning scientific and technical cooperation in the Earth Sciences. The collaboration between the two countries will enable sharing of the expertise available with organisations in both countries and adoption of the latest state-of-the-art technology in the field of Earth Science.

US President Donald Trump has said that he agrees with a statement issued by China expressing full confidence that a trade deal between the two countries can be reached within the next 90 days. The two nations agreed on a truce during the meeting of their leaders on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
8. (d) Be the Solution to Soil Pollution
The World Soil Day was observed across the world on December 5, 2018. The day is observed annually to highlight the importance of healthy soil and advocate for the sustainable management of soil resources. The 2018 theme of the day was 'Be the Solution to Soil Pollution'. The campaign aims to raise awareness regarding soil pollution and call people to #StopSoilPollution.

Congress MP and Islamic cleric Maulana Asrarul Haq Qasmi died of a heart attack at his village home in Kishanganj district on December 7, 2018. He was 76 and is survived by two sons and three daughters. A former state president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hindi and member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Qasmi had won the Kishanganj seat for the first time in 2009 Lok Sabha polls and went on to retain the seat five years later.
10. (b) Charlotte Prodger
Charlotte Prodger , who works predominantly with moving image, sculpture, writing and performance has won the Turner Prize for the year 2018. Her work explores issues surrounding queer identity, landscape, language technology and time. The acclaimed prize is awarded to a British artist for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation of their work in the preceding year as determined by a jury.
