Nalanda was an ancient center of higher learning in Bihar, India.

Located: The site is located about 88 kilometers south east of Patna, and was a religious center of learning from the fifth century CE to 1197 CE.

Ruins: A number of ruined structures survive. Nearby is the Surya Mandir, a Hindu temple.
